Vsevolod Zaderatsky Prelude in a moll from 24 Préludes and Fugues (1937/1938)

Kevin D Cornwell - Nocturne No 9 Opus 4
Description

Anna Heller plays Prelude in a moll by Vsevolod Zaderatsky (1891-1953) from 24 Préludes and Fugues (1937/1938). Jascha Nemtsov wrote a very insightful and emotional blog about this composer: This music was written in Gulag (Magadan) camp. “But it was an act of unparalleled courage and singular mental strength to create this work (the first of its kind in the 20th century) in the Gulag in 1937/38. It was written in the face of almost certain death and without any of the basic material requirements such as manuscript paper, pens, musical instruments or opportunities for performance – a phenomenon that deserves to take its place in the annals of 20th-century music.”
