About the composer
Dr Darragh Gilleece is an Irish pianist, composer and educator. He teaches piano at Maynooth University and serves as an Examiner for the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM). His PhD focused on Schubert’s piano duets and their pedagogical value. Passionate about musical education, he has collaborated with Quietlifemusic on bespoke piano method books and his works appear in RIAM piano albums as well as the Universal Music Exams syllabus.
“Composing for young learners is a particular skill that requires a musical approach to what are often technical and performative issues. The pieces in First Steps by Dr Darragh Gilleece certainly deliver this and more… the music remains vibrant, interesting and full of humour and musicality.” — Andrew Higgins, Composer
