“Hommage a Madame de Pompadour” (Tribute to Madame de Pompadour) is a new piano recital expressing my admiration for Madame de Pompadour, French baroque piano music and neo-baroque compositions. While enjoying the visit of the magnificent Versaille, the listeners will immerse themselves into the pleasurable culture of the time of Madame de Pompadour with its intrigues, fancy dress balls, sophisticated and amusing love games, and melancholy. There are so many beautiful French court dances like gavottes, bourres, allemandes, menuettes – composed by great masters of the time Jean-Baptiste Lully, Jean-Philipp Rameau, Francois Couperain. They were a source of inspiration for the next generations of composers: Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Deodorat de Severac, Camille Saint-Sans, Sergej Prokofieff, Poulenc etc – they all showed their admiration for Madame de Pompadour and her time.
The French composer, pianist and organist Georges Lamothe (1837-94) was well-known in the late 19th century for his light salon music - particularly dance music- but he was totally forgotten in the 20th century. As a pianist, he could improvise the melodies in old style based on the French Baroque music. Enjoy the premiere recording of the Minuet for the King by Georges Lamothe.
