My approach to classical music:
It is well known that the face is the mirror of the soul. In my case, however, it is rather the voice that is the mirror of the soul – it enables me to express my feelings and yet is also a direct expression of myself. I am a very sensitive musician who lives and breathes music as well as poetry. I try to communicate sincerely and unaffectedly what I feel when I sing.
Profile
Ilker Arcayürek is an Austrian tenor with Turkish roots. In 2016 he was elected by the Opera Now Magazine under the Top 10 of the new generation rising stars. In 2015 he became a New Generation Artist with BBC Radio 3. Alongside his career in opera he has specialized in Lieder, and in the coming season he will give recitals in the Wigmore Hall, London, as well as in the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, to name but two venues.
Ilker made his first steps as musician as a singer in the boys’ choir «Mozart Sängerknaben» followed by the «Arnold Schönberg Choir». This period had a great effect on his future career, through the frequent collaboration with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Claudio Abbado.
Parallel to his Choir activities he took singing lessons at Tenor Sead Buljubasic. After two years of tuition, he was discovered one day as a talent at a singing competition for Viennese song and operetta. Through this he finally came to the Zurich opera house, and things took their course from there.
